First and foremost, this review wouldn't be possible without the help of a dear friend, who's kind enough to lend me this figure, one of my favorite characters in Transformers

Pic Credit : Web
Presenting, one of the most graceful Transformers out there, Nova Prime, predecessor to Nominus Prime. Back then in Cybertron, there was another big war being fought, long before Optimus Prime/Megatron time, ended in the hand of Nova Prime. With the end of Chaos, Nova ventures to Cybertron's underground with his closest comrades and advisors, Jhiaxus, Galvatron, Cyclonus and Dai Atlas, to find the Guiding Hand.

World with no factions

Even with the purest of intention, Nova Prime slowly drift away, believing more than he should, on the prophecy of "All Shall Be One", planning the Expension to enslave all lifeforms under his empire. Running out of time when Vector Sigma's flow of new sparks ceased, Nova Prime and his team boarded the Ark to start the Expension.

Nemesis Prime

Nova Prime discovered a portal while on their way to the Benzuli Expanse and, blinded by his greed and pride, went into the portal to the Dead Universe and never be seen again. Not as Nova Prime

Pic Credit : Web
Nova Prime was actually a concept design made for Optimus Prime by Don Figueroa but the toy never seen the light of day. However, there was a company that produced this design and if not mistaken, only 2 figures exist (1 design, 2 variants)

Knowing what the fans want, Maketoys took the liberty of [mass] releasing the first Not-Nova Prime figure, dubbed MT-03 HyperNovae

In Package

The latest of the Tanker Series, HyperNovae took a different route than the previous releases, packaged in a small (but long) box rather than the usual bigger ones. On the front is a great picture of HyperNovae himself.

Back View
On the back are pictures showing HyperNovae Modes, starting from the alt mode, the basic mode, combined mode and the his full mode (will be explain later in this review). The quality of the box is considerably good compared to most 3rd Party releases

The figure comes with an instructions sheet, translucent parts (to be inserted into the wings) and an instruction on installing the translucent parts

Installation on the wings

Let me make it clear first. I skipped the battle tanker series due to various reasons (mainly the size) but seeing this figure is breathtaking.

HyperNovae comes in a mixture of mixture of vibrant white, black, yellow and blue. As can be clearly seen, HyperNovae is a combination of remolded RTS G2 Laser Prime and a remolded Battle Tanker

Back View
A fine detailing on the rims and at the back portion of of HyperNovae with no paint smudges, clean paint apps indeed.

Quality wise, the alt mode feels really solid, way better than the original Battle Tanker set (with RTS G2 Laser Prime) which surprised me. The sturdiness of the plastics reminded me of most Fansproject releases and Maketoys Giant

Top View

The cab is connected with the trailer part through a pivot joint, like that of Classics Optimus Prime and Fansproject's G3 Trailer. However, the range is quite limited due to the wings and the center of the trailer bumping with the cab

With Fansproject Shadow Scyther

Size wise, HyperNovae is a tad big longer in alt mode compared to Shadow Scyther.

Robot Mode (Basic)

There's an issue when Maketoys revealed that they'll be releasing HyperNovae with the core body based on Hasbro's G2 Laser Prime. However, having this in hand, you'll be glad to know that they've improved a lot on the figure that it makes people wonder why couldn't Hasbro release Laser Prime with at least almost the same quality.

Side View
Back View
The basic mode of HyperNovae went through a massive retooling which can be seen from the side and the back (as pictures above). These include a new head, shoulders and his back (where the front of the truck cab separated from the shoulders)

The basic mode was actually my least favorite part of the set but the apparently, he's still awesome without the add on from the trailer

Slightly different but a great head sculpt nonetheless

The base figure went through a lot of improvement (aside for the retooled parts) in terms of the joints where the weak ball joints on the thigh and weak swivel on the knees were replaced with strong ratchet joints that improved his stability and poseability.

Despite the weight of his back, the improved joints help him to withstand it, enabling him to be posed easily. HyperNovae has a ball jointed head, double jointed shoulders, ratcheting joint on his elbows and ball jointed hands. The waist is on swivel joint, ratchet and swivel joints on the thighs, ratcheting knees and ball jointed feet

With TFCC 2013 Scourge
Compared to TFCC 2013 Scourge (and his other variants), HyperNovae basic mode is slightly taller due to the retooled of the lower body parts

Robot  Mode (Combined)

For the combined mode, HyperNovae only used few parts from the trailer which are used for the lower legs, lower arms and the crotch plate. The back kibbles are reconfigured to give a different looks compared to the basic mode

In this mode, the articulations are basically the same except for the shoulders where backwards motion is a bit limited unless the shoulder kibbles (initially on his back) are reconfigured

Like Battle Tanker, HyperNovae is a bit shorter than Henkei Convoy which was actually on of the reason I skipped it

Robot Mode (Full)

This mode is truly a thing of beauty. In this mode, all the parts are used with none set asides. The transformation does require you to used the instruction manual but after getting used to it, is fairly intuitive

Side View
Despite the heavy parts, the improved joints on HyperNovae's basice mode are able to withstand all of the weight.

Reconfigured shoulder parts

The tip of the wings can be spread out a little for better presentation of HyperNovae. Attached using several parts (using ball joints, hinges and swivels), the wings is really sturdy and won't fall under its weight.

With Shadow Scyther
Compared to the basic mold, the fully combined HyperNovae still retain the articulations

Excluding the size issue (which I know a lot of people doesn't have it), HyperNovae is truly a great figure in overall. So basically if you're collecting the previous release of Battle Tanker, HyperNovae is a must have. I really had fun taking his picture as the aesthetic really suits my taste

Mastermind Creations R-01 Terminus Hexatron - Pictorial Review

The most powerful killing machine out there, a six-changer, that's what he is. Most try to not be in his way and those who does, fight with every bit of their spark to survive. And they'll regret it. Sixshot!

Pic Credit : Web

Sixshot made a notable appearance during Transformers G1 : The Rebirth (Part 1), storming Cybertron with other Decepticons, with sole purpose of getting control of the Plasma Energy Chamber. A monster, Sixshot single-handedly takes on the Aerialbots with his 5 alternate modes, upon being ordered by Galvatron.

In The Headmasters continuity, Sixshot was the arch-enemy of Ultra Magnus, as the Decepticon City Ninja Commander. Fought a fierce battle, Ultra Magnus faced Sixshot bravely but against the six-changer, Ultra Magnus fell by the power of theWingwolf, Sixshot's hidden seventh mode.To be frank, I prefered Sixshot's potrayal in US G1 rather than in the Headmasters as the former had him as a killing machine, not a ninja-bot.

The Glory of G1 SixshotPic Credit : Web
Before I continue, would like to wish Happy New Year 2014 for all. And special thanks to my friend who was kind enough to lend me this (skipped him for awhile, saving up for my best 'haul', my baby, to be born in April 2014)

1 - In Package

First teased at TFCon 2011, Mastermind Creations Terminus Hexatron released was delayed for quite sometime due to the need of solving some issues on the mold. An from the finished product, it's all worth the wait

Terminus Hexatron comes in a simple but well-designed box with better quality compared to their previous release, Cyclops (R-03 Bovis comes with the same quality box as Hexatron is).

Back View
On the back, there are pictures of all Hexatron's six-modes starting with the Tank Mode, Laser Pistol Mode, Star Fighter Mode, APC Mode, Winged Wold mode and lastly Robot Mode.

Windowed Box

Like most standard 3rd party releases nowaday, Hexatron comes with a tech specs and a comic book together with his manual.

Hexatron's Tech Spec

Reformatted Issue 01

I won't revealed much of the story except for the link between the future release of Mastermind Creations, Seraph Prominion (Not-Nova Prime) with Terminus Hexatron

Pic Credit : Mastermind Creations

Seraph Prominion
Pic Credit : Web

I will sum up Hexatron's 5 alt modes after brief explanation on each mode

2 - Winged Wolf Mode

First of all, it's best made clear that Hexatron's design follows G1 Sixshot to the core, having the same basic transformations, giving Hexatron basically the same aesthetic as G1 Sixshot.

A blast from the past, ain't it? Hexatron's Winged Wolf mode transformations from the robot mode is fundamentally simple, more so if you've experienced with G1 Sixshot. Quality-wise, Hexatron improved a lot from Cyclop (in which MMC continues to deliver with R-03 Bovis)

It is stated in the instruction that the 2 swords are supposed to be attached to the side but I prefer a cleaner look from the Winged Wolf mode.As you can see, the hind legs follows the G1 design which means only basic articulations are present, allowing the legs to be moved forward and also to the side by the swivel joints on Hexatron's robot mode thighs.

Back view

The front legs however has an improved articulations with ratcheting joints on the knees and double-jointed shoulders, The paws are on hinges allowing them to be push downwards. The wolf's head is on a swivel joint and a hinge for wide range of movement; the hinge is a bit too weak to hold the wolf's head in place (the replacement part is being sent by MMC), while the jaw is also on a hinge.

Size comparison with Toyworld's Not-Throttlebots

3 - APC Mode

Hexatron's APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) mode have a nice detailing on the surface with all the guns and the swords becoming the weapons.

However, the treads are visible which kind of crowding it a little bit.

The APC mode is roughly the size of 3 Toyworld's Not-Throttlebots (which is roughly the same size as circa 2008's Deluxes) and coincidentally, the same price as 3 of them.

4 - Laser Pistol Mode

The alt mode that kids enjoy (well, at least I did), the laser pistol. Like G1 Sixshot (and also G1 Megatron, on that matter), Hexatron transforms into a laser pistol that can be hand-held. Unlike the G1 version, the sword sheaths becomes extra blasters in addition to the 2 existing guns that follows G1 Sixshot.

Could've Hexatron be better if MMC installed an LED inside the barrel as opposed to just painted red?

The laser pistol mode is roughly the length of 2 deluxes from front to back.

5 - Tank Mode

Despite following his G1 counterpart's design, the added detailing increases his fierce looks and together with his large size, the tank mode feels more intimidating than the rest of them and by far, one of my favorites

The swords can be kept on Hexatron's wings for those who doesn't like parts put aside. To each their own

Back view
Size Comparison

6 - Star Fighter Mode

Hexatron's last alt mode and also, my 2nd favorite mode, is Star Fighter mode.On the ground, there are 4 landing gears/stabilizers located on each of the wings and the remaining, under the cockpit area

Back View

With Toyworld's Not-Throttlebots
Summary

  • Transformations of Hexatron to any of his alt mode has an initialization point which basically transforming him halfway to Robot Mode. However, it's just a guide for those who aren't familiar yet
  • All the alt modes holds together, no loose part or anything
  • Hexatron has awesome detailing. Eventhough some or the parts are just used in one of the alt modes, MMC didn't went cheap and discarded them
Robot Mode

Now, for the best part, R-03 Terminus Hexatron's Robot Mode

As Sixshot as it gets. Mastermind Creations decided to give Hexatron as much homage to G1 Sixshot as they can. And that's not a bad thing, with the added detailing and updated design, Hexatron comes out as the ultimate Sixshot (for now)

Hexatron mainly consist of colored plastics with just few painted parts for detailing. With this, Hexatron comes out having with a clean look overall.

Back View
Hexatron is literally kibble free, following his G1 toys and animations design.

The head sculpt is well-done with red-painted eyes instead of having light piping. The head has a gimmick where the 'helmet' can be taken off (which I forgot during the photoshot)

Great detailing on the chest

* I went back and forth on the configuration of Hexatron's shoulders which can be seen throughout the review *

Hexatron comes with a pair of guns and swords. Articulation-wise, Hexatron has basically the standard articulations of modern day Transformers figures

Hexatron comes with ball jointed head, hinge and swivel on the shoulders, swivel on the biceps, ratchet joint on the elbows and ball jointed fists

Hexatron also have waist swivel, ratchet and swivel joint on the thighs, hinges on the knees (almost 180o range of movement) and ankle tilts.

In addition to his G1 weapons, Hexatron comes with 2 swords that are stored in their sheat. The rings on the waist allows the sheath to be around his body (like Mastermind Creations previous Heart Of Steel Seekers)

Hexatron swords has the same look as Generations Drift sword, in which the link has yet to be explained. The characters however are different, saying 'Centered, Essence, Maintained'whereas Drift's were 'The Only One'or something like that.

All six of Hexatron's hubcaps can be detached and converted into shurikens

However, I can't seem to have Hexatron holding them. Maybe there's something that I missed. The mechanism on the shurikens works like Reveal The Shield Wreck-Gar's energy axe where the other 2 blades open up when one of the blades opened.

Comparison with Henkei Convoy
Comparison with Shadow Scyther
Hexatron stands in between the size of a Transformers Ultra Class and Leader Class. Some might view the size to be correct, as I do, with Hexatron being bigger than Optimus Prime and Fansproject City Commander (current filler for CHURGs Ultra Magnus).

There's always debate among CHURG collectors on whether it's better to have a figure with G1 looks but improved articulations or a an updated aesthetic altogather. Even I don't have a rule with regards to that, just made my decision based on the product.

However, Hexatron's no doubt worth the money, hoping to get him in the future. Having a clean design with great plastic quality, Hexatron definately deserves a spot on your CHURGs shelves

TFC-008 Wings Of Uranos [Project Uranos] - Pictorial Review

$

Now, for the last piece of the puzzle. Sorry for the delay I had a slight problem with the supplier that causes the delay and hectic end of 2013 doesn't help.

Years before, during the time of Hercules, TFC decided to release an add on set after his [near] completion, answering to fans request [demand] of a more G1-Devastator-ish aesthetic for Hercules. And TFC answers with the Rage of Hercules set. And I applauded them for that.

Pic Credit : Web
But, with Uranos, TFC decision to release add on even before the combiner was finished was a bit disappointing, considering they were still at the stage where amendment can be made. Okay, that's the end of that. Moving forward, having completed 5 members of Not-Aerialbots team, do you need the upgrade set?
Without further ado, I present to you Wings of Uranos

In Package

Design wise, the set roughly have the same feel as Rage Of Hercules, with Uranos packaging theme. The artwork of Uranos equipped with the set is beautifully done, better than that of Hercules, in my opinion

At the back, there's a picture of the toy, showing the basic configuration for Uranos's upgrade

Comes with the set, there's Uranos's tech specs, a cardboard (the same size as Wings of Uranos box) with Uranos's artwork done in sketch-style.

This is where it becomes redundant. Also comes with the set is a poster of Uranos using the same artwork as the box, the tech specs and the cardboard. Nice as it is, maybe they could at least used another artwork for any of these. Now, let's move on to the main course

Above are all the parts included in the set, beginning with at the top, Uranos's gun, crotch piece, front and back neck filler/collar/whatever-you-want-to-call-them, chest plate, 4 pairs of twin missiles and 4 guns for individual robots (minus Blackbird). The mouth plate is not in the picture as I got excited and attached it to Uranos right away

For Alt Mode

Now, let's see how the parts are used in alt mode.
*the explanation will be brief due to fact that most of the parts are repetitive on different figures*

F-4 Phantom

The twin missiles are attached to each wing, pegs into the outer round holes while the original missiles pegs into the inner side holes

F-15 Eagle

AV-8B Harrier II

In order for Harrier II to incorporate both the original missiles and from the set, the landing gears on the wings must be taken off and replaced with the missiles from the set.

F-16 Falcon

One might think that the additional missiles upgrade seems petty and pointless, and I can understand that, knowing most people won't keep them in their alt modes. However, I strongly think that these helped improve the aesthetic and feel for the four members.

Just so you know, despite being 'simple', TFC went far when they decided not to do a 'dummy' missiles where the twins are not molded together. Instead they separate, with 4 different types of missiles, attached to connectors. I applaud them for the attention to detailing given

Now, for the weakest link. The remaining parts of the set (excluding the neck fillers) can be attached together forming some sort of a drone jet.....or maybe a flying cannon with more guns!

The drone is a combination of the big gun, the chest plate, crotch piece and all four of the small guns

For Robot Mode

F-4 Phantom

The design for F-4 Phantom's gun (and other members) are not exactly like the one used by their G1 counterpart, instead a redesign version homaging the originals.

F-15 Eagle

AV-8B Harrier II

F-16 Falcon

Just to clarify, all the missiles and guns are interchangeable, shown above are just examples

SR-71 Blackbird

The set however failed to do a plausible improvement on Blackbird, in my opinion. The chest plate, crotch piece and back portion of the big gun can be attached together, forming some sort of a shield. However, the barrel can't be attached anywhere.

The simplest way~
For Combined Mode

Wing of Uranos seems to be a hit-and-miss upgrade if you concern yourself with the alt modes and robot modes. Let see how it goes for combined mode

Presenting, Uranos (complete with all the original missiles and wings) equipped with Wings of Uranos add on set (minus the additional missiles).

The set doesn't come with a manual but on the most part, the picture of Uranos at the back of the box can be used as point of reference.

Above is how attaching the neck filler will look like. The large piece are inserted from the front of the neck while the small piece from the of the back of the neck. Personally, I think the purpose was to hide Uranos's neck as some might view it as a bit long (not me by the way) and also uniformed color with Uranos's white. Still, I won't be using it as it looks ridiculous AND it hinder Uranos's head articulation.

Detaching the wings of Phantom and Harrier II (as shown at the back of the box) will gives Uranos a cleaner look and improves his posebility as the wings tend to bump at other parts of Uranos. However, I see no reason to do the same for Eagle and Falcon, just use the normal configuration

I personally don't have any problem with Uranos's head sculpt but with the mouth plate attached, I like him more than I knew I would, total homage to G1 Superion

The new chest plate not only improve Uranos's looks but also, the tabs on both sides help to keep Blackbird's hand (with the combiner pegs) in place when moving Uranos's hands

New gun homaging G1 Superion's gun
I've read online that people complaining the crotch piece can't stay in place and keeps falling off. Apply force to attach the crotch piece until you hear locking sound. If fails, just sand the tip of the peg of the crotch piece that may have some excessive plastic (as was mine)

For those of you who still have problem with Uranos's hip, please refer to the video below (by T2rx6 )

If you can't find anything to put inside the hip (as recommended), simply just roll small piece of paper and wrap it around the peg inside the hip joints, under the spring, voila~

Literally standing strong

So, is this set worth the money? For me, yes. If you have Hercules, the improvement this set brought to Uranos are more than what Rage set brought Hercules

However, I do hope Project Ares and Prometheus doesn't follow the same path (but seeing Nemean, I'm guessing we'll be getting a better sword and shoulder cannons)

TW-03 BII - Pictorial Review

$
0
0
First and foremost, I would like to thank ToyWorld for giving me the chance to do advanced review of their TW-03, a big leap for my review blog. Before we start, as always, an introduction is in order.

Let us forget for awhile, about the 'all-mighty' Bumblebee post-2007 era and go back to a simpler time, Generation 1, 1984 era. Bumblebee is one of the first Autobots lineup introduced when the series aired, being a part of the crew that crashed on Earth 4 millions years ago.

Not being the toughest nor the smartest one, doesn't stop Bumblebee from being in the fight for Earth safety. Being one of the most good 'hearted' bot out there, Bumblebee befriended Spike Witwicky and acted as his closest friends and guardian till Spike's adulthood.

Pic Credit : Web
Bumblebee survived the reign of Unicron and remained in the Autobots frontliner during Rodimus Prime's time. He however, sustained fatal injuries during the outbreak of the Hate Plague and rebuilt into a new soldier, Goldbug.

Pic Credit : TFWiki

Over the years, there's been an extensive version of Bumblebee, from the improved-G1 design to the reboot/new design. There's few design that roughly follows (or intended to follow) the original Bumblebee design such as G1 version (pic above), 2006's Classics Bumblebee and recently the new offering by a 3rd Party Company, Artfeather.

Pic Credit : TFWiki

Pic Credit : ACToys
However, just as we went into 2014, Toyworld decided to release their version of Bumblebee, TW-03 BII.

In Package

TW-03 BII comes in black-themed box, packed similar with TW-01 Hegemon and TW-02 Orion as opposed to other TW releases of his size, TW-T01 Grindrod, TW-T02 Aurora and TW-T03 Trace. The box however, is smaller than that of Hegemon and Orion.

Side View

Back View

Both the side and the back of BII box have pictures of him in both robot mode and alt mode; with the side of the box showing both modes pictured from behind, while the back of the box showing both modes pictured from the front.

Tech Spec

Instruction Sheet
Like previous TW (and most 3rd party) releases, BII comes with an instruction sheet and technical spec, aside from the figure itself.

Alt Mode

BII transforms into a Volkswagen Beetle much like G1 Bumblebee in 1984 (though, not really familiar with the model, not sure whether it is EXACTLY the same model or not), giving one of the best homage ever to the G1 character.

Despite giving BII the real alt mode of G1 Bumblebee, Toyworld decided to give BII a more animation-ish proportion to it, much like Bumblebee G1 toy. BII's windscreen, side and rear windows are made out of solid plastic instead of translucent plastic. Personally, I think this was done to 1) avoid cracking on those parts since they are involved in the transformation between modes and also, 2) BII is compacted in the alt mode and hence clear plastic will make the robot parts inside visible from the outside.

Back view

Looking at the detailing of BII alt mode, I strongly feel that the windows are done such a way intentionally to avoid problems. The detailing of BII are nicely done with the head lights and tail lights made out of clear plastics, colored rims, silver side mirrors, and car handles.

Size Comparison

BII is roughly the same size as the 2006s Classics Bumblebee which transforms into a some-sort of a hatchback sports car.

BII is bulkier compared to Classics Bumblebee, however a tad bit shorter.

Side by side with Henkei Convoy, BII does seem too big, but so did Classics Bumblebee compared to this Optimus Prime molds. However, I must say I really am not well-versed in terms of the scale of the alt mode so please use the pictures and judge yourself.

Em....maybe Henkei Convoy really is small

With Toyworld TW-02 Orion

Just in case comparison with both Optimus Primes above are not enough, lets add another one.

Personally, I think MP10 is better in scale with BII, followed by Toyworld Orion. But as I said before, I haven't had much clue about the scale of those trucks compared to Volkswagen Beetle.

BII with Optimus Prime and Spike

Robot Mode

Moving on to the best part, BII robot mode.

As G1 as it gets, that's my first impression of BII. Nicely designed, BII follows the design of Bumblebee in the 1984's G1 animation. Transformation wise, BII is pretty simple but with cleverly done transformation sequence (slightly similar to Classics Bumblebee).

Side View

Back View

As can be seen above, BII is basically kibble free, following G1 Bumblebee animation design. In general, the design does seem better than Classics Bumblebee (also Art Feather Bumblebee, re-shell of the Classics version) which has kibble hanging at both of his hands and also at the back of the car hanging on his back.

The head sculpt and face are neatly done, though at first glance, appeared to be that of Classics Bumblebee (which is actually different after closer looks).

The gap that you can see is actually due to the locking system being a bit loose but only unlocked due to excessive movement (posing the hands, etc) near the part.

Articulations of BII is one of the best features, aside from the homage. BII has a ball jointed neck, ball jointed shoulders, swivel on the biceps, hinge on his elbows (90°), waist swivel, ball jointed thigh, and ratchet joints on the knees that allow more than 90° movement forward and backwards (due to transformation). There's a swivel joint below his knees and a really big range of articulations on his feet.

BII is a really stable figure with strong joints especially the ratchet joints on the knees.

Size Comparison

BII is a tad bit taller than Classics Bumblebee with slimmer looks; compared to the bulkiness of his Classics counterpart and slightly shorter than Art Feather Bumblebee (comparison between Art Feather Bumblebee with RTS Bumblebee can be seen here thefwoosh.com ).

With Henkei Convoy

With TW-02 Orion

With MP10

My collecting rule has always been Official over 3rd Party releases, sold of my Warbot Defender with the release of Generations Springer, skipping Toyworld Hegemon and Orion for Classics Optimus Prime and Megatron, and few other examples.

However, I was quite surprised with how I come to like TW-03 BII. And never notice how much I dislike the design of Classics Bumblebee before. BII turns out to be my best CHURG Bumblebee and until Takara show us MP 21, BII is currently my favorite version of G1 Bumblebee.

Planet X Caelus - Pictorial Review

$
0
0
Now is the review of the second product of Planet X after Genesis (courtesy of a friend), Caelus. I must say, Planet X really took time between releases which is rare for a 3rd Party company. Continuing the theme of Genesis (homaging to WFC Omega Supreme), their 2nd release is a character from the War For Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron continuity, Dinobot's Swoop

Pic Credit :TFWiki

Swoop (Generation 1) is part of the Dinobots that was built, together with Snarl, after the first 3 Dinobots proved to be valuable to the Autobots. Despite the arrogant and disobedient nature of the Dinobots, Swoop is by far the friendliest of the five. Having an alt mode deemed weak by others, Swoop is highly skillful in aerial combat and the missiles on the wings aren't just decorations.

Pic Credit : Web

In Fall Of Cybertron, Swoop is a member of the fierce Lightning Strike Coalition, alongside Grimlock. He was captured and forcibly changed into a Dinobot by Shockwave. Not really a downside, Swoop didn't take his new form for granted once he realized his new potential

In Package

Caelus follows the same theme as Planet X's Genesis but in smaller size and no window on the box. It's good to know, however, that Planet X maintained the quality of the box for Caelus

On the back, there's a toy picture of Caelus with Cybertron-ish background.

Just like most releases nowaday, Caelus comes with a manual and also a tech specs. Unlike Genesis, Caelus comes with no extra accessory aside from his weapons

Alt Mode

When Hasbro first revelead Fall Of Cybertron Grimlock, fans rejoiced with the possibility of having a full team of the Dinobots again, after Generation 1. However, as time goes by, it proved to be a lost cause. Until Planet X decided to release Caelus (Not-Swoop), in his glorious pterosour alt mode

Caelus alt mode follow closely the concept art of FOC Swoop which is a really nice touch

Back View
Caelus comes with a lot of detailing in terms of the parts, with movable flaps under his wings and also on both side of his thruster

Like Genesis, Caelus is a highly detailed figure, which can be seen on every parts of him. The lines on the wings give Caelus a nice Cybertronian touch

Caelus, despite his good design, comes with a problem where the head of the pterosour doesn't pegged securely to the robot head

Size Comparison

As it is intended to be, Caelus scaled nicely with Fall Of Cybertron Grimlock but it seems that Hasbro version colors doesn't really matched with Caelus (maybe Takara would be a better choice)

Robot Mode

Beautiful figure indeed! Transformation from Pterosour to Robot Mode is quite simple but fun. Caelus is made out of a really hard and solid plastic where everything stays together, no loose part

Despite the weight of the wings, Caelus can stand without much problem.

Back View
Caelus has a clean design with no kibble hanging anywhere aside from the wings which is a must

Planet X really did well on Caelus's head sculpt and design. It might not be visible in the picture but Caelus comes with light piping with the opening at the side of his head

Despite being small, Caelus comes with tonnes of detailing , top to bottom. If you notice, the plastics color on Caelus (the grey, red, yellow) are basically the same as Genesis

Caelus comes with two swords, made out of solid plastic, with roughly the same design of FOC Grimlock's sword. However it would be nice if the swords are made out of translucent plastics

One of the nicest feature of Caelus however is his articulations. Caelus comes with a ball-jointed head, swivel and ratchet joints on the shoulders, ratchet joints on the elbows and hinges on the wrists.

Caelus has a waist swivel, double-jointed thighs, swivels above the knees and double-jointed knees. Caelus however doesn't come with ankle tilts, only hinges where the feet can be tilted downwards

Each of Caelus's wing comes with 3 hinges to allow different poses and the wings are attached to the body with swivel joints.

Seriously, he's fun to play with!

Size Comparison

Planet X again did not fail the fans, Caelus is a great continuation after the release of Genesis. And if Planet X is the only possibility of us getting all the Dinobots, rest assured, they will be awesome!

Dr Wu DW-P15 Rain Storm - Pictorial Review

There are few categories of 3rd Party releases, from a full figure, add ons (armor, extensions), replacement (heads, etc) and also weapons.

Dr Wu is one of the companies that focused on the release of add on weapons and recently recently, IDW-inspired weapons for Generations Springer

In Package

Im Package : Front View

In Package - Back View
Rain Storm comes in a nice box with Springer artwork from IDW comic on the front and back of the box, showing the weapon set

Rain Storm comes with the standard biocard and an instruction sheet. On the bottow part of the instruction sheet are teaser of Dr Wu's future release,  DW-P17 (for Generations Blitzwing) and DW-P18 (from Generations IDW Bumblebee)

DW-P15 Biocard

Weapon Set

Rain Storm comes with a gun/blaster, a gatling gun, magazine and a connector

With the magazine and the connector ttached to the gatling gun

The detailing on the gatling gun is amazing and made out of a sturdy plastic. However, as you can see, the finishing are not very clean on some of the parts

The gun is made out of 2 parts, the gun itself and the magazine.

The detailing is a bit minor on the gun but maybe due to the design of the gun in the comic itself

I would have to say, the gun is way better than the blaster that Springer comes with

However, the gun does sometime looks off in term of the size but again, MAYBE it's because the way it was design in the comic.

Despite all of that, I still think this gun suits Springer very well

The gatling gun however is another story. Even though made for Springer, it appears that posing with it is not an easy thing to do and the number of poses you can try is very limited. Equipping the gatling gun with less articulations or posebility than Springer would be even harder

Nooooo..I don't think so

There's been too many weapon sets being released nowadays and it's hard to justify the pricing. So, is Rain Storm worth the price of a Deluxe figure? Depend, if you think the above Springer is badass with this set, than go for it. If it doesn't, then maybe you're better off saving the money

Mastermind Creations R-05 Feral Rex Fortis - Pictorial Review

One thing that I hate in collecting Transformers figures...the wait! Even more so if it's part of a team, Headmasters, Throttlebots and in this case, Combiners. The next figure released by Mastermind Creations after R-03 Bovis is R-05 Fortis (Not-Headstrong), courtesy of a friend

Pic Credit : transformerscustomtoys.com

Glutony with brute force. Not the brightest of the 5 but Headstrong still maintained the most determined of all once he decided he wanted something. And nobody can say otherwise. With unbreakable ramming head and acid-dripping horn, Headstrong proves to not be taken lightly by the enemy

During G1's Call of The Primitives, the Predacons went fleeing for their lives when Sky Lynx and Trypticon had their energy drained by Tornedron, but stopped by Headstrong, declaring that he should die fighting, bringing the fight back into his fellow Predacons. Headstrong can form either leg of Predaking but mostly as the left leg.

In Package

*The review won't be too detailed as Fortis is a remold of Bovis*

Fortis is the 2nd Feral Con member released by MMC after R-03 Bovis while R-02 Talon and R-04 Leo Dux being pushed back. Fortis follow the same design template of Bovis with different base colors.

Back View

The back of the box shows Fortis in Alt Mode, Robot Mode and Combined Mode. Noticed that Fortis formed Feral Rex's right leg instead of the usual left leg by his G1 counterpart.

Instruction Manual Cover

Comic Book Cover

Fortis comes with a tech spec and a comic book which bundled together with the instruction at the back. If you notice, on the comic book cover, it stated that it is in fact Issue 05 which  means you'll need to wait till all 5 figures are release to read the them in sequence

The plot thickens!

Alt Mode

Fortis transform into a mechanical/robotic rhinoceros with mainly yellow, red and black color scheme much like his G1-self.

Comparison

Despite being a remold of R-03 Bovis, the transformation of Fortis from robot mode to alt mode are quite different, giving him a new look compared to Bovis.

Different from Bovis, Fortis alt mode has the back of the robot facing up instead of the front of the robot, so are his back portion and the configurations of all 4 legs. These might seems petty but it helps to improve Fortis overall looks

Fortis alt mode is really well-designed giving him a solid look and perfect homage to his G1 counterpart. But just like Bovis, I wish MMC did better concealing his robot mode's face.

Fortis comes with accessories which all of them can be attached to him in alt mode for a more weaponize configuration. The extra parts are 2 blades, 2 arm blasters and a double-barrel cannon that serves as of one Feral Rex's feet.

Robot Mode

Just as I mentioned before, Fortis is a remold of Bovis in which 90% of the parts are the same. However, the color scheme and some of the retools makes Fortis looks like a totally different design then Bovis

MMC really put a lot of effort in maintaning the quality of Fortis. The joints are all very tight and the paint apps are perfect (aside from the issue with the upper arm of his right hand)

Back View

Fortis face sculpt is basically the same as Bovis but with different expression. Comparisons are shown afterwards in this post

Basically the same articulations as Bovis, Fortis has a swivel joint of the head, ball joints and hinges on the shoulders, double jointed elbows, swivel on the wrists and the waist.

Also double-jointed thighs, swivels above the knees, hinges on the knees and also ankle tilts.

With Arm Blasters

Fortis's twin blades are nicely design giving him a really fierce looks. The blades (and that of Bovis's) will form Feral Rex's large sword

Due to his design and weight, Fortis is a very stable figure and fun to play with, once you get used to him

The arm blasters have a short pegs thus can't be held by Fortis (not like he'll look nice holding them anyway)

Fully-armed Mode

Comparison

MMC did well in getting Bovis and Fortis design and color scheme right making both of them appeared unique. Below, can be seen the resemblances/differences of these two

As you can see, there's not much difference between Bovis and Fortis aside from the head sculpt (and of course the animal's head) and the chest. However, I'm personally okay with it.

Bad move, bug!
Combined Mode

Transformation to combined mode for Fortis is exactly the same as Bovis

Side View

Although on a ball joint, Fortis (and Bovis) can only be tilt less than 45o in both directions. However, more can be said when I at least have Leo Dux in hand

It's really frustrating waiting for a combiner to be completed. However, as of now, I'm looking forward to see MMC Feral Rex, TFC Ares, TFC Prometheus and Warbotron WB-01 to be completed.

Unique Toys Maniaking - Pictorial Review

It seems like forever since I've last done a review as I was busy at the office and also been involved with Malaysia's Transformers 30th Anniversary Expo early February. Thanks to a dear friend who's kind enough to lend me the figure that I'm about to review next. First, a little back story.

Earlier this month, Transformers : Age of Extinction (AOE) Teaser Trailer was released depicting some interesting cast with appearance of Transformers' iconic character, Galvatron.

Screenshot from AOE Teaser Trailer, showing Galvatron
Pic Credit : TFW2005

Not a newcomer, Galvatron is a character that almost all TF fans have heard of, be it from Transformers Generation 1, Armada, Energon, Cybertron or any other media (comics, etc). Let us explore Galvatron throught Generation 1 continuity.

Pic Credit : Web

After the fierce battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron in Transformers : The Movie (1986) that left most children then crying their eyes out (I still cringe everytime I watch the death fight), Optimus Prime died (for the first time, not the last) and Megatron suffered the most fatal blow ever, leaving him half dead and was evacuated from the battle by Soundwave.

Not long after, Megatron was betrayed (not the first time) by Starscream and was left in space to rust alongside with few others. There, the unfortunate few met Unicron which offer Megatron a new, stronger body in exchange for total obedience. Hence, Galvatron was born. Throughout Transformers history, Galvatron made frequent appearance as either an upgrade of Megatron or a separate entity.

G1 Galvatron (the non-accurate-color version)
Pic Credit : Web

As a CHURGs collector, I was pleased when Hasbro announced the release of Universe Galvatron back in 2008. Yet, the fact that he was only a Deluxe-sized figure was a small issue; compared to the nightmare of the figure design.

Universe Galvatron
Pic Credit : Web

Since then, there's a lot of news hinting that 'this' or 'that' company will be releasing their own Galvatron but only in 2013, Unique Toys showed their prototype and Maniaking was release in January 2014.

In Package

Nicely done, Maniaking's box comes with a G1-style artwork of Galvatron at the front. However, that's not the best part. Maniaking's box follow the style TFCCs exclusive figures which is a really nice touch.

Other than the box's quality, the packaging is quite plain with a picture of Maniaking in robot mode on one side and Maniaking in alt mode on the other.

Maniaking comes with an instruction sheet and also a tech spec.

Alt Mode

Fulfilling our wishes, Maniaking transforms in a futuristic canon, homaging G1 Galvatron alt mode to the letter.

The transforming part is really fun with everything pegs in nicely with no loose parts falling. The transformation is even more fun on the upper body part, forming the back half of the canon.

Maniaking comes with fine detailing and almost perfect transformation where almost all the robot mode are not (clearly) visible.

IMPORTANT!!

Be sure to pull out the lower leg portion before rotating the calf upwards during transformation to avoid breakage.

Robot Mode

And the fans rejoiced! Unique Toys has managed to capture the essence of Galvatron with Maniaking. Quality wise, Maniaking's plastic feels a bit thinner than that of TFCs and Toyworld.

However, as a whole, Maniaking is a very solid figure, with no loose part. 2 minor complaints on my part would be the white color being used should've been grey and it would've been better if his cannon is made of translucent orange plastic like his G1 counterpart.

A very detailed and nicely done head sculpture with a very clean paint application. It's a pity though that Maniaking doesn't come with light-piping.

Kibble-free

Sadly, despite the spot-on homage, Maniaking is quite disappointing in terms of his articulations. Maniaking head comes with a limited ball-jointed where he can nod but can't look upwards. The joints that lock his shoulders to the main body are quite weak where they have the tendencies to unintentionally unlock while moving the shoulders.

The shoulders are on double-ratchet joints, swivel under the shoulders, and a hinge on the elbows. The fingers are on a hinge (4 of the fingers, not individually articulated). Maniaking doesn't have a wrist-swivel which to me is a huge disappointment as it disrupts the aesthetic when you're trying to pose him.

Maniaking comes with a waist swivel, double-jointed thigh, swivel above and below the knees (below is for tranformation), hinge on the knees (less than 90°), and ankle tilt.

Size Comparison

Galvatron that has the same height as Megatron, that's the dream!

Finally, an obvious commander!

with Classics Rodimus / Hot Rod

Personally, CHURGs collectors have been waiting for proper Galvatron either to go side-by-side with their Megatron, Scourge/Cyclonus, or Fansproject Protector. And yes, from the comparisons above, Maniaking's size is a spot on.

First Prime, then Ultra Magnus, and now you. It's a pity you Autobots die so easily, or I might have the sense of satisfaction.

This is the end of the road, Galvatron.

Universe 2.0 Cheetor - Pictorial Review

$

One of the figures that I vowed to skip and never even considered before, Universe Cheetor. This changed, however, since my wife decided to start collecting the Neo-Beast Wars figures (thanks a lot, Rhinox and Rattrap!!)

Pic Credit : TFWiki

The young and enthusiast Maximal was never short on energon. Despite his good intent, Cheetor had few times caused problems to his teammates and almost leading them to the brink of destruction. All of this reminded me a lot of Hotrod in the 1986's Animated Movie.

Pic Credit : TFWiki

Among the initial crews of the Axalon that crash-landed on the 'mysterious planet', Cheetor quickly went on his way, after choosing a cheetah as his beast form, going on a run with others of his kind....sort of. This 'harmless' act brought him face-to-face with Waspinator and the other Predacons which resulted him being rescued by Optimus Primal. And that won't be the last....

Beast Mode

Cheetor in all his glory. The figure was released back in 2008 as a part of Universe 2.0 Line, together with Universe 2.0 Dinobot.

I'll be honest, Cheetor is not a hot figure (at least when he was first released) and this might be due to the fans claiming that Cheetor had a poor design in both alt mode and robot mode. Which I don't agree half of it as Cheetor has a nice, well-proportioned beast mode.

So, my theory is that, aside from the mediocre design, Cheetor (and Dinobot) was out of place, during his release in 2008. While all the Classics and Universe 2.0 figures focused on G1 characters, Cheetor and Dinobot messed out the whole Neo G1 theme, for coming from the Beast Wars line.

Articulation-wise, Cheetor has sufficient joints to at least allow him to do natural poses.

Cheetor comes with a gimmick in which when the lever on his back is pulled, his jaw opens and his eyes switch from green to red. To understand more, the eyes are homages to the many colors for the eyes that Beast Wars Cheetor's variants had throughout the years.

Scale-wise, Cheetor and Rhinox might not be properly done; however, I think it is close enough as I would've hated if Cheetor is two times smaller or Rhinox is two times bigger than they are now.

"Should we be in Madagascar, Rhinox?"
"Shut up kid!"

Robot Mode

A design that the fans didn't agree on. However, bear in mind that Cheetor was released almost 6 years ago in 2008 so personally, he's not that bad..

What Cheetor might be lacking in terms of design, was made up with his finishing. Cheetor was done with Pre-DOTM quality with rich paint apps and great detailing.

One of his highlights would be the CGI-accurate head sculpt and almost-perfect quality control that showed how different Hasbro nowadays is.

Cheetors has slightly limited articulations even compared to others in that line especially for his shoulders as movement is hindered by the kibbles on his hands.

Cheetor's tail becomes a whip-like weapon in robot mode, which surprisingly is a homage to Transmetal 1 Cheetor instead of Beast Wars Cheetor.

Cheetor comes with swivel joint on his head, ball jointed shoulders, and hinges on the elbows. His lower body consists of ball jointed thighs, swivels above the knees, and 4-points hinges from his knees to his feet.

Size comparison with Generations Rhinox

Another gimmick would be 2 throwing stars, stored at the side of his legs.

Despite the complaints and all, I'm grateful that I have the chance to revisit Universe Cheetor as I have a very different view on him compared to few years back.

It's been a slow year, kind of caught up with a lot of things from personal, work to hobby. Hopefully, in 24 hours, will be able to post another review so stay tuned.

After TransMY collaboration doing Malaysia's Transformers 30th Anniversary Expo, we're trying to move forward and expend our group, hence TransMY Reviewers Community is born

The idea behind this is to get few TransMY-ian to start up their own Transformers reviews on any platform (blog, youtube, etc) to help promote the group, the fandom and also themselves. Also, through this, hopefully we can groom and help each other to bring forth more reviewers (from Malaysia, especially)

Custom Robots Revoltech Style Not-Shockwave - Pictorial Review

This will be the first official review under TransMY Reviewers Community. The review is made possible with the help of our sponsor, X2OToys who was kind enough to provide me this figure.

http://x2otoys.com/

Perhaps one of the most memorable characters in Transformers universe. Despite making an appearance mostly in Generation 1 (and a few other homages of him in other series), he's a fan favorite. Making another appearance in the Dark Of the Moon, Shockwave's popularity now grows with the newer fans.

Pic Credit : Web
One of Megatron's most trusted generals, Shockwave was given the job to govern Cybertron as Megatron went on the mission to intercept an Autobot mission. The most loyal to the Decepticon's cause, Shockwave overseen all of the activities with logical, scientific mind which led to the evolution of Cybertron's technology, including the Space Bridge.

Pic Credit : Seibertron.com

This is not something that I would've guessed to be released but Custom Robot surprised me when they decided to release Revoltech-style Transformers characters. If I'm not mistaken, Not-Shockwave is their 2nd offering after Sonic (Not-Soundwave).

In Package

Custom Robots's [Not] Shockwave comes in a brown box, which reminds me a lot of newer TFCC releases. The box has a simple label of Custom Robots and a picture of Shockwave.

Side View

Shockwave comes with a standard Revoltech-style action stand and extra hands (in the blue sealed bag).

Revoltech-style joint on the stand

There are only 2 extra right hands provided given that Shockwave has a blaster for his left hand.

The Figure

Before we start, it's worth noting that Shockwave and Soundwave are hand painted by Custom Robots. And I must say, I'm fairly impressed with their offering.

Although I myself am not a fan of Revoltech figures, I had a few experiences with previous Revoltech Transformers releases (and my wife is a Revoltech Evangelion collector) and I honestly think that Custom Robots did a great job!

Following the G1 Revoltech figures aesthetic (not the Bumblebee and Optimus Prime movie version), Shockwave is properly designed with sufficient detailing overall.

Back View
Instead of letting him have a plain look at the back, Custom Robots did few nice design and detailing including Shockwave's cable (made out of hard rubber) that is connected from his backpack to his left hand.

Material-wise, Shockwave is made out of roughly the same type of plastic as Revoltech's official releases.

Detailing

I love the detailing and how clean the finishing is. Custom Robots did a really good job, kudos.

Design and Articulations

Like the action stand, Shockwave uses the same design as official Revoltech Transformers. In the picture above, Shockwave can switch his right hand with Revoltech's Megatron. The joints, while being tight enough, some of it are still not as good as the official Revoltech's joints. Still, there's no problem in playing and posing him.

He is awesome! I can't say that I really enjoy Revoltech figures before but he's really well-designed and fun to pose. However, the extra hands provided are a bit loose; but that's not something nail polish can't fix.

One thing that bothers me a bit is the articulation of his left arm which is a bit limited due to the cable that extends from his back to his arm. Perhaps with a longer cable, more poses can be done.

Despite that, Shockwave is still awesome and fun to play with. If I remember correctly, the base for Shockwave's stand is bigger; making it more stable.

Comparison

Thanks to a fellow TransMY-ian for lending me the rest of the Revoltechs including his custom Thundercracker.

Shockwave is roughly the same size as the rest of the lineup, making him fits in just fine. Custom Robots also did a good job in his design as apart from the absence of his insignia, he looks like an official Revoltech release.

What's my take on him? Custom Robots did a very good job on his quality and finishing, making him almost on par with official Revoltech releases. Hopefully, Custom Robots could fix a few of the issue such as the loose extra hands, etc. Other than that, Shockwave is really great, can't wait to see how Custom Robots' future offerings will be.

Destruction is imminent!

Generations Whirl - Pictorial Review

$
0
0
For now, 2014 seems like a well-balanced year, with interesting releases from both HasTak and 3rd Party companies. There's still no sign of the Generations Deluxe Wave 4 here in Malaysia, kind of worrying; considering this won't be the first time I have to outsource some of the regular releases. We are lucky though, since the Wave 4 (if not mistaken) of Generations Voyager has already arrived.

Pic Credit : Web

Whirl....the weird character both in term of his design AND personality. Don't get me wrong Geewunner, I have nothing against his design, just calling a spade; a spade. Whirl is a member of the Wreckers, which recently given more spotlight in the Transformers world. Honestly, I think it's because of that spotlight that fans could have a chance to get our hands on an obscure characters like him (and not long after, Voyager Roadbuster).

Wreckers are well-known to be 'reckless', not abiding to most rules written. But Whirl take it to another level. None can determine whether Whirl is in fact insane OR he just believes that insanity makes an extremely effective weapon.

G1 Whirl
Pic Credit : Web

In Package

.
Whirl comes with 4 weapons and one of them (2nd from the left) homaging G1 Whirls Null Ray Module.

All 4 weapons come with pegs and c-clips for them to be attached to other weapons or to Whirl in both alt mode and robot mode. Different from when it was introduced during Generations/Reveal The Shield line, the c-clips are made out of sturdy and solid plastic.

Whirl comes with a sticker sheet (sorry, I got impatient and had all of them applied) with translucent base to give him a better G1 looks.

Helicopter Mode

Pic Credit : TFWiki
As above, Generations Whirl helicopter mode heavily homage his G1 toy design and Marvel Comic continuity.

I'm fairly impressed with Whirl's plastic and material quality, feels like a huge improvement since Springer. Transformation from robot to helicopter mode is fun but rather simple.

Side View

Whirl's weapons can be attached to both sides with the c-clip or round pegs with the weapons configured by your own preferences.

Seems fitting to have the Gatling gun at the front of the helicopter.

The gun must be detached when landed.

One of the things that surprised me is that how detailed the stickers are. As you can see, the stickers are really small yet the texts are perfectly clear.

Cockpit can be opened.

In Helicopter mode, Whirl is roughly the same width and length as Generations Springer. However, Whirl's mass is more on the front half of him, which basically covers 90% of his weight.

Heloped Mode

Yup, Whirl's a triple-changer. A nice but surprising update for him, I must say, would be understandable for the upcoming Leader Jetfire. If anyone can update why Whirl has a Heloped Mode, that would be great.

Whirl's Heloped mode is basically a mid-transformation from Robot to Helicopter mode (and vice versa).

As you can see, the knees are designed specifically for this mode, to make the Heloped *cough*gerwalk*cough* mode happen.

All of the weapons can be reconfigured for this mode, again at your own preferences.

Robot Mode

I must say, I really like Whirl's neo-G1 design. From his old toy, one would've guessed that it'll be totally changed, somewhere along the line with 'normal' bots but instead, Hasbro was brave enough to have Whirl as how the fans remembered him. Kudos!

Back View
The back is basically kibble free with just the helicopter's blade hanging loosely.

One of the main complaints for this figures is that the thighs are facing outward and should be in reverse. I haven't tried to do anything yet but I think that's how the design really is, switching them would cause the inner part of the thighs to be visible in alt mode. Second, the knees have weird joints to cater for the Heloped mode.

Weapon configuration (example)

Weapon configuration (example)
Whirl has a gimmick where the light-piping can be turned off by rotating the ear piece.

It was not mentioned in the manual but Whirl's shoulder struts can be pushed inside his body for a better proportion. However, it will hinder the shoulder's articulations.

Whirl in general has great articulations, except for the knees and the lack of waist swivel. Head on a ball joint, double-jointed shoulders, and double jointed elbows. The thighs and the knees are all double jointed but the design of the joint of the knees limits Whirl's pose-ability.

The Null Ray Module can be attached to his hand

Size wise, Whirl is basically the same size as Springer which to me is the appropriate size. Sorry as I can't afford to assemble my Wreckers team for a group photo.

Another Wreckers acquired! Who's next?

Unique Toys G-02 Sharkies - Pictorial Review

$
0
0

One of the things that I love about 3rd party releases is that most of them are random! Yes, there's a pattern where they focus more on releasing combiners (not to mention, the Headmasters and the Wreckers) but aside from that, fans mostly are surprised with their offering. And the fact that they are producing some obsecure characters for the fans is most welcomed. Wonder how long would it take for Hasbro to release a PROPER Reflector?

After the release of the first 4 figures from their War Lord Beasticons set, Unique Toys, the successor of CHMS, decided to take a detour and release an obsecure character (which previously was teased by iGear) from the famous 1986's Transformers The Movie, the Sharticons, dubbed UT-G02 Sharkies.

Pic Credit : TFWiki
Made their debut in 1986, Sharkticons are a group of shark-like (well, land-cyber-shark, if you will) soldiers for the Quintessons. Although, despite their name, I myself see more piranha in them rather than sharks. From the picture above, your first impression might not be too far off. The Sharkticons are basically fierce killing machine with almost zero intelligence. And they are big and round. In short, aside from their numbers and also giant razor-sharp teeth paired with those empty eyes, they are just walking potatoes.

The Sharkticons serves as the executors for the Quintessons, killing any being sentenced by their masters, However, when it's Kup and Hot Rod's turn, the Sharkticons fail their mission. Making things worst, the Dinobots came to the duo's rescue and by Grimlock's order, turned against their master simply due to their nature of obeying the strongest one.

Pic Credit : TFWiki

Despite the name, Sharkticons was released under the Gnaw which kind of confused me. I can understand that maybe Hasbro wanted a character name for the toys instead of using 'Sharkticons' in general but I can't seem to find any reference to the name Gnaw until Dreamwave's 2003 Cold War comics, giving back story to Gnaw as one of the Sharkticons, who becomes attached to a young Autobots, Wheelie.

Pic Credit : TFWiki

In Package

Unique Toys G02 Sharkies comes in a rather big box with a nice artwork at the front of the box. Having experienced Unique Toys's Maniaking before, the box kinda dissapointed me a bit but to be fair, Sharkies was released way before Maniaking was.As the name implied, Sharkies comes in a set of 3.

There was some problem during the shipping to my supplier and my Sharkies comes with dented (but intact) boxes, am currently waiting a replacement box.

Alt Mode

I must say, I like them a lot. The sight of this really made me thinking of getting few more sets just for army-building. But with all the future releases, that might not be a good idea.

*sorry that you can see my reflection through their eyes. such a nice chrome*

Transforming Sharkies from Robot to Alt Mode (and vice-versa) is fairly simple but not boring as I've been transforming all 3 for quite a few times already and I'm still enjoying it

The plastics used are slightly thinner than that of Maniaking but when you compare with the price, I think it's sufficient. Here in Malaysia, each Sharky is roughly the same price as an ordinary Hasbro Deluxe figure.

The detailing on them were done nicely, not at all plain even at the back. Sharky's tail, hands and horns are made out of rubbery plastic, maybe a good choice if you're worried of breaking his hands and horns.

Not all 3 Sharkies are the same, one of them have pinkish purple color lips while another two has light purple lips, with the purpose of making the pinkish purple one as a 'leader' while the other two as the henchmen. Looking back, G1 Gnaw/Sharkticons also comes in the same color as the leader so maybe it was Unique Toys' intention of making that as the Not-Gnaw while the other two as generic Sharkticons.

From the design, there's not much of articulations to be expected. Sharkies legs and knees are on ball joints however the knees can't be bend forward as it is using the robot mode's elbow joints which face inwards in alt mode.

The jaws can be opened up to 90o downwards. Inside, the back of the robot's head looks like 2 mini blasters inside of Sharkies's mouth

Lastly, the hands are on swivel joint thus only allow 360o rotations

Most people that I know prefer to have Sharkies in their Masterpiece line which compared to MP-08 Grimlock, the size difference tallied with the characters in 1986's Movie. I however, feels that Sharkies fit perfectly in my CHURGs collection as I believe having them in Deluxe size is more logical. As an army, they must be intimidating! And they are not if they are as small as a potato to Grimlock.

Side View

You're not as fierce as when you're 10 times bigger than us, huh?

Robot Mode

Like I said, I like Sharkies a lot! Kudos to Unique Toys (and iGear for their own version of Sharkticons) for tackling such obsecure character. It's hard to re-create G1 characters that had 'weird' design but still make it work without losing the original aesthetic.

The 'Rounded' Bad**ses

Sharkies comes with in black, light blue and silver colors with Not-Gnaw having pinkish purple on the chest while the generic Not-Sharkticons has light purple on the chest.

Side View

Back View
Sharkies have a clean design overall aside from the alt mode's hands positioned at the back. However, they are nicely placed and don't interfere with the the posebility.

As you can see, aside from the different chest color, Not-Gnaw and the others have different facial expressions. Finishing wise, both head sculpts are well-done but they do have some paint smudges (in my case, on Not-Gnaw). Aside from that, am quite satisfied with UT's end products.

Sharkies comes with a gun and a flail (which is the alt mode's tail) each. The gun can't be stored in alt mode (or I'm the one that haven't find a way). There's no specific way of storing the alt mode's hands other than rotating them and hiding at the back.

Sharkies comes with a ball jointed head, shoulders, elbows and feet with double jointed thighs. Sharkies however doesn't have a wrist and waist swivel. Despite that, you can still find good way of posing them once you're familiar with them.

Despite being top-heavy, Sharkies are quite stable and easy to pose. Just to make it better, tightening the ball joints on the thighs can make posing them a lot easier.

Despite having a normal deluxe size alt mode, Sharkies are quite small in robot mode. They're roughly around the waist level of Classics Grimlock.

I do have 2 complaints in terms of the design/QC

The horns are quite loose where they will easily fall off whenever they bump into something. Which is quite often when you try to transform them between modes

The shoulder guards can easily slides out when trying to pose the hands. Tightening them wouldn't be a good idea as it will limit the articulation.

* I can't find any of my Classics Rodimus and Kup's mold to recreate the 1986's Movie scenes so I think these will do*

Perfect Effect PE-DX03 Warden - Pictorial Review

March 2014 has been a killer month for me. Bought around 10 Henkei/United figures to complete my mold collection, few 3rd Party figures, and continuing my quest to complete Botcon 2007 Boxset, Bugbite, and Thundercracker. Now, only Dirge and Thrust to go!

On top of all that, an unexpected figure arrived at a local shop here where I almost cried due to the timing, LOL. Thus, I manage to burn a bigger hole in my wallet with Perfect Effect's PE-DX03 Warden, a homage to IDW Fortress Maximus.

Pic Credit : TFWiki

Fortress Maximus is no stranger in the Transformers universe. After his debut in G1's The Rebirth, Fortress Maximus became a regular in the franchise as himself, an iteration of himself or as characters having the same design as he does (Grand Maximus, Brave Maximus).

Fortress Maximus has a lot of backstories, depending on which continuity you're referring to. But for this review, I'll be taking IDW G1 continuity as my reference as Warden clearly homages that design.

Came to existence during the hard period of war, Fortress Maximus was portrayed differently in this continuity, well-known for his mass-killing of Decepticons, as opposed to a weary Autobots with pacifist nature that had seen too many battle.

Running a tight ship, Fortress Maximus is the warden (hence the name) that's in charge of Garrus-9, a penitentiary for both Autobots and Decepticons. And that itself make him a target by a lot of the inmates and the worst happened when the Decepticon forces lead by Overlord run down the prison and Fortress Maximus was almost rip to shred first by Overlord and then the angry prisoners. And it didn't end there, until Fortress Maximus was rescued by the Wreckers.

Pic Credit : TFWiki
Unlike in G1 cartoon where Fortress Maximus is a big robot in which Spike Witwicky form the head of Cerebros who in turn, becomes Fortress Maximus's head, IDW Fortress Maximus is a normal size robot that might just tower few others. This actually (if I'm not mistaken) roughly follows Marvel Comics G1 continuity where Fortress Maximus is a normal size robot (roughly the same as his other Headmasters group).

However, Fortress Maximus underwent a big reconstruction process to alter his size, making him twice the size of an average Transformers. With this increase in size, Fortress Maximus needed a new head to bridge the gap between his and Galen's (his Headmaster before Spike) size. And this is where Cerebros comes into the picture.

1 - In Package

Front View

Warden comes in a white-themed box with his CGI-render at the front of the box. Roughly the box is almost as big and sturdy as Masterpiece boxes (MP-08 Grimlock and MP-11 Starscream). At the lower left of the box, it's stated that Warden has 7 Gimmicks/Modes in total (7 in 1).

Side View
In terms of the box, Perfect Effect has improved a lot compared to their previous offering.

Back View
At the back, there's extensive look of Warden with all of his gimmicks/modes, (1) Commander Mode, (2) Robot Mode, (3) the Core Robot, (4) Scout Tank, (5) Destruction Cannon, (6) Cannon Tank; and lastly (7) Super Robot Mode. However for this review, I won't be demonstrating the Commander Mode, the Back Pack, and the use of the Destruction canon on G1 Fortress Maximus.

Just like all Perfect Effect releases, Warden comes with a lot of accessories including a display stand and an instruction manual.

Instruction Manual

Warden's display stand is made out of  a sturdy piece of plastic that is able to hold Warden's weight in Super Robot Mode.

Size Comparison

2 - Core Robot

The core robot, a Headmaster figure homaging G1 Spike, is really well-made. There has been a few 3rd Party companies that have released Headmasters figures, namely Fansproject Function-X line and Toyworld TW-H line; but I must say, Warden's core robot is made out of sturdy plastic as Function-X's, and better articulations than both of them. He even has a nicely-done light-piping.

Side View

Back View
Warden face on the back of the core robot is partially sealed which is almost good enough. Would be better if they can also hide the mouth.

Despite the small size, Core Robot's articulation fairly surprised me. He has a decent hinge on his shoulders, elbows, knees and waist with ball joints on his thigh.

The joints are really solid and tight, giving Core Robot great play ability as the figure is really stable and easy to pose.

The paint job on the core robot is almost perfect with sufficient detailing; considering his size.

I only have Toyworld version of Headmasters, sorry for that. Warden's core robot is basically a head taller than that of Toyworld.

3 - Scout Tank

The Scout Tank is a basic alt mode, used by Warden's core robot. There are only a few parts used which are not needed for Warden's basic robot mode (also, the big gun).

I was surprised to find out that the treads are made out of rubber, thicker than the one from ROTF Bludgeon. There's also a mechanism where the treads returns to their normal position whenever they're moved forward.

I love the design of the Scout Tank. Simple yet effective. As this isn't a must, I consider it to be a thoughtful addition to the set.

All four missile launchers can be configured freely as there are quite a few numbers of the peg available.

Core Robot's Day Out

4 - Cannon Tank

This is perhaps one of the coolest alt mode ever! In Cannon Tank mode, all of Warden's accessories are used except for the display stand. Transformation to this mode is really fun (with a couple of shouting and cursing in between).

Being a part-former is nothing new for Perfect Effect releases, but they nailed the execution. Warden's Cannon Tank is really solid and everything holds together nicely.

I really admire the detailing...great job!

The Core Robot's seat is at the front of the Cannon Tank, made out of Warden's chest armor and small gun.

Size Comparison With Henkei Convoy

He's huge! Not what I initially expected. Aside from being 2 times bigger than Henkei Convoy, Warden is also way heavier than Henkei Convoy.

Even compared to Toyworld's Headmasters, Warden is obviously bigger than both. This scale however made me glad that I took Toyworld version instead of Fansproject version.

We're seriously in need of Chromedome and Highbrow!

5 - Robot Mode

Transforming Warden from Cannon Tank mode (or Commander Mode) is fairly intuitive, once you've fiddled around 2-3 times, you'll get the hang of it.

Warden comes with an independent neck part which connects to the body via a ball joint. This allows wider range of articulation compared to Toyworld's Headmaster.

Presenting, Perfect Effect's PE-DX03 Warden!

Honestly, I still can't believe how great the quality of this release is. I did regret when buying him due to the tight budget but once I opened him up, I'm really glad that I did! He's an awesome piece.

Side View
Back View
In this mode, Warden is kibble free. You may notice that his lower leg is hollow (which is due to the transformation) but worry not, they feel solid and really sturdy.

I applaud Perfect Effect for this amazing head sculpt and detailing. Not only the face design is well-done,the resemblance to IDW Fortress Maximus is uncanny. Now let's look at other detailing.

Despite his mass, Warden's weight is also contributed by 4 die cast parts, his knee guards, as well as the blue panel at the side of his legs, making Warden a much stable figure.

There's huge amount of detailing all over the figure, showing how much effort Perfect Effect had put in releasing this.

Warden stands a head taller than Henkei Convoy which for me, is roughly the right size. Any smaller than this, then Warden will be overshadowed by Prime; and taller than this will make Warden falls into the not-average sized robot category (well, that wasn't easy to explain!).

This is it, how the Headmasters should be. Kind of glad I choose the Toyworld version, making them roughly almost the same size as Not-Fortress Maximuss.

Toyworld need to release their Not-Chromedome and Not-Highbrow fast!

Honestly, Warden is a lot of fun to play with, surpassing any of my expectations. Warden is able to do a wide range of poses due the the effective design and articulations.

Not only that, the stability of this figure is awesome, due to the extra weight of the die cast parts.

Did I said he's stable? Yeah he is. The joints are also well made that they can withstand the weight of the figures, making it easier to pose; like the joints on his thigh which are able to withstand the weight of the die cast parts.

Warden comes with an impressive amount of articulations. The base of the neck is on a ball joint, double jointed shoulders, swivel above the elbows, almost 180° on the elbows' hinge, wrists swivel, and articulated fists (molded four fingers).

The thighs are on a double joint, swivel above the knees, more than 90° bends for the knees, and also, ankle tilts. However, the most unexpected joint might be the ratchet joint on Warden's waist, allowing him to tilt his body forward and backward.

Overall the joints seems to be sturdy especially the ratchet joints. However, the ratchet joint on the waist is frequently used either when playing or transforming; so be careful with it.

6 - Super Robot Mode

First of all, let's see the character behind Warden's design.

IDW Fortress Maximus
Pic Credit : Web

Following the IDW design, Warden can mount all of his accessories (except for the display stand) to form his Super Robot Mode. The aesthetic includes especially the four big treads on his back.

Despite being top and back heavy, Warden can still maintain his stability and is able to stand/pose easily.

Back View

All the parts are attached securely on Warden where you won't have to worry about parts falling off.

In this mode, the articulations are a bit limited to the normal robot mode due to the size/weight, and also, the chest armor pegs into his shoulder joints which only left him with forward and backward (limit by the treads) motions.

The big gun to be used by G1 Fortress Maximus can act as Warden's giant handheld cannon or blaster.

Warden can use the stand by attaching the connector to his back. But unlike most Gundam bases, this stand can only be use for standing pose as the connector can't be rotated or moved.

6 - Commander Mode

Now, for the last mode.

The alt mode that left the fans (at least me) baffled, not due to the practicality but impressive feat of engineering.

In Commander Mode, there are 2 components not included for Fortress Maximus's head. One is the big gun and the other is the scout tank (that transform into Fortress Maximus's back pack).

Transformation to this mode is ingenious, Perfect Effect really did a good job on him. The head is nicely pegged together with no loose part, forming a solid head.

Top View

Again, the head sculpt of the head is nicely done. I sincerely hope that one that Perfect Effect (or any other companies) will release a Fortress Maximus body that will go with this head, as a new CHURGs Fortress Maximus.

Size Comparison

Personally, Warden is one of the best 3rd Party figure that I have ever owned (and probably one of the best ever released), in terms of quality and design. Guess buying him is one of the risk worth taken, no regrets at all on my part. Making Warden compatible with G1 Fortress Maximus is a bonus gimmick which shows how much thought Perfect Effect puts in making Warden the definitive Fortress Maximus figure.

A new milestone

I've been collecting 'full time' for just about 5-6 years now and have lost count on how many time I've been asked about my rule of collecting. Well, I've had quite a few actually

1 - Once I only collect Hasbro version of CHURG molds.
2 - Bend that rule when I started collecting any Takara version of CHURG molds that were repainted into a new character, like Henkei Strafe from Cyclonus mold
3 - Bend the rule again when I made exception due to 3rd Pary releases. For example, I went for both Henkei and Classics Optimus Prime due to the release of FP DIA Commander, bought both Henkei and RTS Bumblebee to be used with Not-Bumper and Not-Hubcap MGS add on.
4 - Also bend the rule when I went for a repetitive release of the same character when the repaints are good like e-Hobby Decepticon Set where I've already had all the 3 mold (Hasbro version)
5 - Went ahead and start collecting Botcon and TFCC figures if they are using CHURG molds
6 - Due to the fact that with all of this 'exception', I ended up having at least 70%-90% of the variants for each mold, leaving behind only Henkei/United version of the molds
7 - Ended up deciding to collect every single variants ever (officially) release of CHURG molds

Quite happy thinking that I've almost completed pre-2014 releases of CHURG mold

Maketoys Manga Mech Series Trash-Talk & Cogwheel - Pictorial Review

Here's another review made possible by our sponsor,  X2OToys , Maketoys [Manga Mech Series] Trash-Talk (Not Swerve) and Cogwheel (Not-Gears).

http://x2otoys.com/

Swerve is one of those characters that was made popular again after quite sometime. Made his debut in Transformers G1 cartoon series and had almost limited screen times with few notable appearance in G1's Five Faces of Darkness and Forever Is A Long Time Coming. Aside from those, Swerve hardly ever appear again. However, in IDW G1 continuity, Swerve is one of the frequent casts, appearing in a lot of the episodes.

Pic Credit : TFWiki

Gears on the other had, was a familiar face in Generation 1 cartoon series. Although he's one of the original crew of the Ark, Gears was involved in seldom involved in the battle due to his non-combatant nature (or maybe he just doesn't really care much about earth in general).

Gears was also featured in other continuities such as Dreamwave Generations 1, G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers and most recently, IDW Generation 1 where he joined Rodimus as the crew of the Lost Light, on a mission to find the Knights of Cybertron.

In Package

Maketoys Trash-Talk and Cogwheel comes in a brown outer box, just like what you can see with MT Hyper Novae. One thing that caught my attention was that there's a label at the top left stating 'Manga Mech Series'. I've heard rumors previously that MT coming up with Not-Metroplex as a continuation of their Armageddon add on for Year of the Snake Omega Supreme, a part of their city-bot series. Maybe 'Manga Mech Series' is their Not-Minibot series?

Maketoys releases might not have the best quality of boxes, but the designs are awesome.

Back View
On the back a lot of pictures showing Trash-Talk and Cogwheel's gimmick and design. Also featured are the extra accessories.

The set comes with, aside from the figures, a gun and an alternate head for each of them, an instruction manual and also a drink tray.

The manual is a simple single row-six columns two-sided paper, showing how simple the transformation for both of the figures.

The set also comes with a drink tray with 1 jug and 2 glasses. For those who aren't familiar, this is a homage to a part of the IDW Generation 1 continuity, that started with Swerve mistakenly thought Blur wants to open a bar with him (Swerve was Blur's fanboy). It all soon came into being when shortly after the event with Sparkeater, Swerve remembered his earlier plan to run a bar. And he did. (That's how the story goes, if I'm not mistaken, haha)

"Sign my bra!"
Pic Credit : TFWiki

The set also comes with an extra head for each of them (Left for Trash-Talk and Right for Cogwheel)

Alt Mode

Trash-Talk (also Cogwheel since they share the same basic mold) transform into a semi-cybertronian alt mode as opposed to earth mode like Generations Scout Class Swerve.

Side View
The transformation from both modes are equally simple, with slight similarities as Generations Swerve. The plastic is quite sturdy, roughly the same as previous MT releases (and somewhat resembles FP's Not-Stuncticons Team)

Back View
From the back of the alt mode, you can clearly see that Trash-Talk (and Cogwheel) comes with ratchet-jointed knees.

Compared to Generations Swerve, Trash-Talk is slightly bigger and comes in mostly-white color scheme as opposed to Generations Swerve almost fully red.

I like to see that Trash-Talk not as a replacement/alternatives of Swerve, rather a cybertronian-form for Swerve's earth mode.

The drink tray (and also jugs and glasses) can be attached on top of Trash-Talk. This however does not improve anything aside from the fact that it can be used for both alt mode and robot mode

Cogwheel has a same mold as Trash-Talk aside from the front hood and also the gun that he comes with, with different paint scheme

Back View

Side by side view

Both front hoods can be opened, showing something inside which I guess to be spotlight of some sort, really don't have any idea.

Robot Mode

As IDW Swerve as he can be. Honestly, Maketoys did a fine job getting his design right. Like he came right out the comic books itself.

Despite being a rather small figure, Trash-Talk comes with fine detailing, not any less than most Deluxe and Voyager figures out there. As mentioned before, the transformation is pretty much straight forward and fairly intuitive.

A clean design
Back View

Right on the dot! The head sculpt is perfectly done, capturing Swerve outgoing, enthusiastic, joyfully irreverent and upbeat personalities.

Trash-Talk is a tad bit taller than Swerve, with bulkier look and better proportion.

Moving on to Cogwheel. Despite using the same mold, Cogwheel comes with different head and also retooled chest part. These, paired the paint scheme, gives him a substantial difference compared to Trash-Talk

Back View

Cogwheel headsculpt homaging his appearance in Generation 1 cartoon series

Aside from the difference in Trash-Talk and Cogwheel head/chest design and paint scheme, both also comes with an individualized gun.

Articulation wise, these two are fun to play with. Despite being small, MT properly design Trash-Talk and Cogwheel to have decent articulations for better playability.

Before we continue, just a tips. Both figures comes with a rather solid and tight ball jointed head which although have wide range of movement, hard to turn etc. And design in which the heads are confined makes it a lot harder to turn them. So, to ease out, the inside of the front hood can be taken out to make it easier.

Aside from that both also comes with a double-jointed shoulders, swivel above the elbows, hinge on the elbows and wrist swivels. There's also waist swivel and hinge, ball jointed thighs, swivel above the knees and also ball jointed feet.

Due to their size and build, it's not a surprised how stable these two are.

Gimmicks

Bottoms up!

To change to the alternate heads, their chest assembly can be pull out as such, taking out their chest, head and hands in one piece.

Before we continue, both parts can be switch with one another giving a different mixture of paint scheme

Trash-Talk comes with an almost-destroyed alternate head with half of the jaw falling out of the socket. Despite being really small, admired how detailed it is. Why the face?

Pic Credit : TFWiki
The alternate head is actually a reference to IDW's The Transformers : More than Meets the Eye #12, 'Before and After', where Swerve accidentally shot himself when trying to lift a huge weapon

Baam~!

Next, Cogwheel's alternate head is a reference to G1 Gears toy version as opposed to G1 cartoon version for his normal head.

This set also sold together with MFB add on referring to Swerve's My First Blaster, built by Brainstorm to suit Swerve small body. However, I didn't get a chance to review this yet, here's some photos of the set.

Assembling Instruction

With the release of Generations Swerve, does this set have a place in fan's collection? Well, personally, this is a must for fans of Maketoys, that's for sure.

Also for those who love to have a proper size neo-minibot team, this is the way to go. Comparing this set to the previous effort of other companies, Trash-Talk and Cogwheel are properly design figures rather than glorified, enlarged legend class figures. Quality wise, Maketoys almost never fail.

Planet X Genesis Pictorial Review

This review is courtesy of X2OToys, thank you! Moving on.

Back in 2013, Hasbro released Platinum Edition Year of the Snake (YOS) Omega Supreme, a redeco/retool of Energon Omega Supreme based on War For Cybertron version of Omega Supreme. Despite having a new head and a massive, articulated claw arm, he is still seen far away from being the 'perfect' Omega Supreme by the fans.

Enter Maketoys! In the same year, Maketoys announces their new project, MCB-001 Armageddon Add On Kit to enhance the look of YOS Omega Supreme.

In Package

On the front, there's a silhouette of what looks like an Omega Supreme with Armageddon Add On Kit in robot mode and city mode. Notice that it's not exactly YOS Omega Supreme but it does somehow looks better...

At the back, there are few pictures showing details and features of the kit.

In Package View

Armageddon comes with an instruction manual showing how to assemble the kit in robot and city mode. There's no tech spec/biocard included in this set unlike most 3rd party releases.

Armageddon Add On Kit

There are few components in the add on kit which frankly, I don't know what they're call, haha. Quality-wise, the plastics felt very solid and the detailing is awesome.

Robot Mode

I'll do things differently this time, starting with the robot mode first.

Impressive! That's one word to describe him. Attaching all the parts takes almost no effort at all, with every connector pegs firmly into Omega Supreme.

The new blaster arm attached easily on Omega's left hand. However, the green part at the end of Omega's hand need to be detached and attached to his left foot. Sorry as mine is missing the green part and I can't demonstrate the assembly. The example can be seen below

The attachment on the side of the legs are done using the connector ports that were also used to attach Energon Optimus Prime drones.

Back View

The back pack consist of most of the parts of the add on kit. All the parts are connected securely to each other and pegged inside of Omega Supreme. The back panels from YOS Omega Supreme are reattached at the back of the add on.

Due to the increase in the weight especially on Omega Supreme's back, the leg attachments can also act as stabilizers.

There's an LED installed at the tip of the blaster hand, controlled by an on/off switch, which is better than how Planet X did theirs before.

Base Mode

Next up, we have the base mode which also include a launch platform.

Assembling the base mode took quite sometime and a lot of referring to the manual. However, after you're familiar with it, things become a lot easy. The connection between parts are strong and hold up nicely.

In my opinion, the base mode is way better than he is in robot mode. In this mode, you can clearly seen how great the detailing and design of the kit, looking more like part of Omega Supreme than an add on.

Overall, the kit is nicely done with paint scheme that matches Omega Supreme's paint job to the letter.

Aside from the LED in the blaster arm, there's 2 more installed in the leg attachments that act as spotlights in base form. However, I'm not sure whether it's just mine or not but there seems to be a wire expose on both of the attachments.

The kit really took me by surprised. 3rd Party companies trying to use YOS Omega Supreme as a base for an add on is expected however Maketoys did really well on the execution, especially the base mode.

This is the 2nd Omega Supreme that fits the neo-classics lineup and while Genesis might appeal more to those who favor game accurate version of Omega Supreme, Maketoys add on converts YOS Omega Supreme into a hybrid style of the character. The improvement the kit gives in both mode are significant enough in making YOS (for me personally) at least bearable and not just another 'redeco'.
